The unfortunate breakage of pottery, often an act of the unpredictable kiln, can feel like a loss. Yet, there is undeniable beauty in the broken. This is the essence of Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing ceramics with lacquer mixed with brass, gold, silver, or platinum. Rather than hiding the cracks, Kintsugi highlights them, turning them into beautiful, golden veins that enhance the piece's history and uniqueness.
Kintsugi embraces the idea that brokenness is not something to be ashamed of, but an opportunity for transformation. The art form is a reminder that, like pottery, our own struggles and scars can be sources of strength and beauty. Rather than covering flaws, we can embrace them, allowing our wounds to become what makes us truly unique and valuable. There is beauty in the broken — in the cracks that tell a story.
I also offer Kintsugi repair services, but this is limited to my own creations, no matter where you purchased them. If you have one of my pieces that’s been damaged, I can restore it using the traditional Kintsugi technique. Please feel free to contact me for more details and to arrange for the repair. I'd be happy to help restore your piece with care and artistry.
