Humpback Whale – Fragments of the Ocean 04

This one-of-a-kind sculptural vessel combines functionality with artistic expression, making it a striking piece for both everyday use and display.

• Material & Process: Wheel-thrown from white stoneware clay, fired to 1245 °C / 2273 °F for strength and durability. The lid is freehand cut, and the tail is sculptured and attached with care.

• Design Details: Features a lone humpback whale. Crowned with a whale’s tail, this vessel carries the shifting colors and rough textures of the sea. Layers of blue, white, and red recall currents, coral, and fragility, while its barnacle-like surface echoes the ocean floor’s living richness and vulnerability. Permanent India ink is brushed into the crackled glaze after firing, adding depth and permanence to the surface.

• Capacity: Holds approximately 346 cubic inches – offering generous space, more than sufficient for any individual.
